Love Thy Neighbor as Thy Self

When you have taught as many young people as I have through the years, you can quickly tell when they first sit behind a chess board, what kind of person they are and what kind of person they might become.  My most successful kids are those who believe in themselves and respect others.  My instruction fosters that but it also teaches it.  Many sadly have never been taught that. This is what I tell my students:

If you truly like yourself, you won’t hurt others.  Because self-love is the first step toward world change.

When you respect who you are, you naturally extend that same respect to the people around you. You move with compassion, not chaos.  You build up, not break down.

“Love thy neighbor as thyself.” This isn’t just a spiritual/Biblical command (Mark 12:31), but putting it in Be Someone terms, it’s a strategic move!  The way you treat others is a reflection of how you feel about yourself.  When your mind is filled with peace, you don’t spread pain. When your heart is rooted in love, you don’t act in hate.  And when you have purpose, you don’t waste energy on negativity.  You become a winner.

We need more love.  We need more leaders who respect themselves.  We need more people who know how to make their next move with love, to lead.

I believe that starts with me and you.  We can’t wait for others to lead.  Time is too valuable to be wasted.  We must set the example.

Let’s be intentional.  Let’s be kind. Let’s be better.

I teach kids to be winners in life.  I teach them how to be givers, not takers.  I teach them how to lead with love.
